Terms & Conditions

 

(Effective from 1 April 2014)

 

General

  • All course materials used/distributed in tutorial classes by BSF remain the property of BSF. The student and parents/guardians agree not to reproduce or provide them to any other person, in whole or in part, without obtaining prior written consent of BSF. Additional fees might be charged for purchase of certain course materials.

  • Any communication that may impact on billing must be made in writing i.e. bookings, cancellations or refunds.

  • In no event shall BSF be liable for any damages, losses or injuries of any kind, whether direct, incidental or consequential, in or out of class.

 

Client bookings & lesson reservations

  • All bookings must be made by the authorized person who has an account with BSF.

  • In the case of students under age 18 (on the date of booking) taking lessons, it is the parent or guardian who is the client. Any request for lessons by students must be accompanied by a written request from the parent or guardian, who is liable to pay the tuition fee, before the booking can be confirmed.

  • BSF implements a “first-come first-served” and confirmation-by-payment policy in allocating teaching schedules and reserves the right to release any reserved lessons which have been verbally confirmed only or have passed the confirmation deadline. Full payment must be received prior to the indicated deadline.

  • BSF reserves the right to change the class teachers for courses / individual lessons / private group as seen appropriate without prior notice and to cancel any lesson as deemed necessary.

 

Types of Courses & Payment

  • BSF provides both private tuition on an individual or group[1] basis and regular courses on a group basis. Payment for different types of courses follows different payment terms.

  • For regular courses offered by BSF, tuition fees should be settled in full on the day of the application to secure the place.

  • For private tuition conducted on an individual or group basis on an ongoing basis, the client will be billed at the beginning of the month for the services to be used in that month. The monthly payment should be settled in full on or before the first day the student is scheduled to have classes in the calendar month concerned. The balance of the tuition fee, if any, will be credited against the next bill.

  • Payment may be made via E-transfer or Cheque (with student name and course title at the back). Cash will not be accepted.

  • For payment through E-transfer, the Transfer Advice should be sent to BSF by mail or in person. Notification will be given once acceptance and details related to payment and class arrangements have been confirmed. Please contact BSF if no notice has been received within 12 working days after sending payment.

  • A student who has not paid his/her fees within 30 days after the due date shall be de-registered. The student may additionally be required to compensate BSF for any loss of interest for any late payment or non-payment of fees.

 

Cancellations

  • All cancellations must be made by the authorized person who has an account with BSF. Cancellations made by students under age 18 should be accompanied by a signed confirmation from the parent/guardian.

  • The authorized person must give BSF written notice of not less than 48 working hours prior to the date of absence, unless such absence is due to sickness supported by a medical certificate or other reasonable causes of emergency.Please note that we are closed on Sundays so cancellations are not accepted after office hours on Saturday evening.

  • Any authorized person who fails to give BSF the requisite notice in advance according to the preceding provision needs to pay 50% of the tuition fee for the session concerned. No classes at alternative times will be arranged.

  • Any authorized person who fails to give BSF any notice in advance needs to settle full payment for the missing session.

  • If a student is absent from a group class, a full tuition fee for the session will be charged and no alternative classes will be arranged.

  • If a parent/a student with parent’s approval would like to end a class earlier after the class starts, a full tuition fee for the session will be charged and no alternative classes will be arranged. If a tutor would like to end a class earlier after the class starts, the missing class time would be made up for by a BSF tutor in a mutually convenient time or the tuition fee will be charged based on the actual length of the class time.

  • Students wishing to cancel sessions for more than 2 successive weeks will need to rearrange a schedule on their return. Please be advised that while we will do our best to find a suitable time, we cannot guarantee availability.

  • In order to keep regular slots, student needs to maintain regular weekly attendance and attend at least 75% of his/her lessons or the slot may be released to other students without notification ( vacation (July & August) will be an exception).

  • During a calendar month, a student can apply for leave (due to sickness or emergency or other reasonable excuses) for a maximum of once per month (July & August will be an exception). If leave of more than once is applied for, subject to the teacher’s time availability, one make-up class can be arranged for the student. If the student cannot find time to attend the make-up class, the tuition fee related to the unattended class will not be refunded.

  • During a calendar month, if a student reschedules his/her class at a mutually convenient time and can not attend the rescheduled class, if notice of over two working days is provided (for non-attendance of the rescheduled class) and the student has not applied for any leave in the month, half of the tuition fee related to the unattended class will be charged; in the other circumstance, the tuition fee related to the unattended class will not be refunded.

  • If the regular slots blocked for the student(s) need to be released, the parent(s)/guardian(s) should provide a written notice of no less than one calendar month.

  • BSF reserves the right to discontinue a student’s enrolment at any time for poor attendance, non-payment or underpayment of tuition fees, or disruptive behavior.

  • BSF reserves the right to cancel lessons at any time. Efforts are going to be made to give early warning to the authorized persons and any prepayment related to the lessons cancelled by BSF will be refunded.

Extreme weather

  • Once the Hong Kong Observatory issues the proposed time schedule for hoisting the typhoon signal No. 8 or above, all lessons 2 hours before the proposed time will be rescheduled.

  • BSF will be closed when typhoon signal No. 8 or above, or black rainstorm warning is hoisted and will resume classes 2 hours after the warning is removed.

  • When a typhoon increases in severity or when a black rainstorm signal is hoisted while the students are within the premises of BSF, BSF will dismiss the students before the end of the class; parents will be contacted regarding the approximate new dismissal time.

 

BSF reserves the right to amend the terms and conditions without prior notice. Please ask for clarification of any points about which you are unsure.

[1] Students who enjoy learning in a group setting are welcome to form a small group with friends or classmates to study the same subject in BSF. Tuition fee per person will be discounted depending on the group size.
